This unintentional omission has resulted in extending the depreciation schedule for tenant improvements in retail from 15 years to 39. \u00a0The actual intent, we&#8217;re told, was to cut it completely and allow immediate depreciation for business owners.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Congress has known about the problem since at least August of this year (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollcall.com\/news\/policy\/senate-gop-seeks-tax-law-fixes-retail-glitch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.rollcall.com\/news\/policy\/senate-gop-seeks-tax-law-fixes-retail-glitch<\/a>). \u00a0Speaker Paul\u00a0Ryan promised\u00a0to\u00a0take\u00a0up\u00a0the\u00a0problem\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0current\u00a0lame-duck session,\u00a0but we didn&#8217;t see it on\u00a0the\u00a0House\u00a0schedule for this week (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.majorityleader.gov\/weekly-schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/www.majorityleader.gov\/weekly-schedule\/<\/a>) and we don&#8217;t see any evidence that anything happened.<\/p>\n<p>So it it\u00a0looks as though retail\u00a0TI\u00a0work will be trending downward\u00a0for\u00a0quite\u00a0a\u00a0while.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Short Version: The tax code is putting TI work at risk, unintentionally.
